99 Sportsman - Changing Tire Size
#1
I have a 99 sportsman with the factory tires and wheels. The fronts are 23x7x10 and the rear is 24x11x10. They are about worn out and I am going to replace them with a little more aggressive tire. This bike is 4x4. Can I put the same size tire all the way around or do I need to stay with the oem specs? I was thinking about 25" or 24". I don't want to go so big that I notice a drop in performance. I really like the new ITP mud lights. Would it help on weight if I upgraded to 12" wheels? Any help woulld be great. Thanks.

Larger tires will lower the power your bike has and I think if you increase the tires proportionally (increase rear 1" do the front 1") I think if you maintain the same ratio it should be OK.

According to my ITP apps the 99 SP500 should have had 25x8x12 F and 25x11x10 R on 12x7 F and 10x8 R rims. (96-02 are this size) 25 mudlites would be ok. Do not go with 26 or above as the fronts are 10" wide and will rub.

I am assuming you have a 335 like me which by all acounts in under powered so when I chang tires I will probably keep the same diameter but go with an 8" wide tires on the front to give a greater tire selection.
