I can tell you from experience that the cover needs to be replaced. What happens ovet time is that the cover gets heated up alot and maybe accidentally you have stepped on the cover or it has been pushed into the clutches. The cover is so thin that over time all the heat build up or the accidental touch, warps the cover and it will just keep getting worse until you finally have a hole worn in it. It will not hurt to ride it with it touching, but like I said, It will get worse and will rub a hole in the cover. I had this happen recently as I let it go and it finally wore a hole in the cover. I replaced the cover with my dads' trailblazer cover and it didn't rub at all. So, I am going to buy a 2004 Trailblazer model cove rto replace it with. The new covers are much thicker because of the melting problem and they also include a drain to allow any water to drain out. The clutch buttons should have nothing to do with it, they will only affect the shift-out of the secondary. Hope this helps.

Yep it will happen eventually with the older covers, I promise.
