SD1,
I think, now I am not sure about this but I think that was your muffler bearings going out.
I seem to remember a post about 5 or 6 months ago on here about someone having that same exact problem. And if I remember correctly his did the same thing! After about 15~20 minutes of riding the muffler bearings would start to make this whirring noise and he would feel hot air on his ankles(The hot air of course coming from the defective seals on the bearings). I also remember he said that he had to order the new bearings from polaris and they were about $200!! You may want to look into this because if you do let it go too long I am pretty sure the hot air will dry your air box out and you will have to service it more often with fresh water and shad.
As always check your manual though, some of this might not be correct.

My xplorer 400 sucks!!!!!!
Anytime I go ridin' I get at least 2 busted beer cans in my rear cargo box. They need to soften up the suspension a little bit or maybe put springs and shocks under the racks. I wrote to Coors but they said they simply can't make the cans any stronger.
By the way -- Dallas sucks too.
Let's Go Pens. (maybe next year)

P.S.
I talked with the local army used tank depot about buying a M1Abrams tank and it turns out that those darn tanks are expensive!!
You would not think they would be so expensive! What are they made of gold or something?
Turns out that I can get a new Rubicon for only about $200 more. Go Figure.
