Race fuel
#1
What type of fuel is usually used in the 400 race mods? Octane? Leaded, unleaded? And also what are the best places to get it? Online sources or locally bought? Thinking of stepping it up a notch and was wondering if the price of fuel would be cost effecient. Oh hell who cares about the cost.

Your compression ratio determines what fuel you need and the race mod loves compression. A trail mod head(machined stock head) needs only 92 octane, race mod stock head needs 100 oct. If I were you I would highly consider going to a billet head with girdle kit even with a trail mod I have seen the cyl. crack at the base if not girdled. The billet heads are 14.5-1 which needs 105 MOTOR octane and 15.5-1 which needs 108 motor oct. I ran Koch race fuel in mine $2.99 gal. I found it at a gas station that sells it for stock cars. Motor octane is different than what you see on the pump, usally a fuel with 110 octane on pump has 105-108 motor octane. pm me when ready to upgrade I sell Hpd parts at a discount.

The race fuels are very leaded, but that's a plus on the 2-strokes. Lead helps lubricate the top end. Dont chance it when it comes to getting the right octane. The machines run pretty loud and you might not be able to hear detonation.
