Default Question for you US guys...

Yankee is not a derrogatory name. It might be to some "redneck" from Alabama, or some "limey" from England. J/K
It is only a bad thing to say in the south, because some of the people in the south still think we are involved in "The war between the states" ( there was nothing civil about it).

Default Question for you US guys...

I was a yankee, then I was a damn yankee,,now Im just a yankee again.

Basicly, Im from Connecticut,,,,lived in North Carolina,,,,and then moved back up north.

Southeasterns (the ones still fightin the war) call you a damn yankee if you end up living in the south (confederate territory).

Once someone I dont know refers to me as a yankee,,,,,They become obsolete to me,,,,just useless ignorance. They make it easy for me to size them up.

If they persist,,,then I try the foot in the --- trick.

Just like any other word, it depends on how you say it and who you say it to. Some people will call you a yank or yankee as a cut, and not even know what it means. They were just brought up to think a yankee is a bad thing.

I grew up in West Virginia and have been called yankee by people down south, and rebel by people up north. I just thank God I was able to spend most of my childhood in such a beautiful state within a free country.

The important thing to remember is to treat people the way you would want to be treated and when in doubt, choose a name that is flattering or neutral to the other person. Here is an example, never ask a woman when she is due unless you are absolutely sure she is pregnant. Trust me on this one.

Oh yeah..i have nothing against any americans..well i cant say that..there are PEOPLE i dont like, but not because they're americans, its because they're a$$hole$! Same with Canadains, some people i dont get along with. I never meant it as a insult..just wanted to make sure it wasnt being taken as one...

No offense taken here but I cannot speak for everyone. I am a power lineman and a person with thin skin would either not last long or not be very happy where I work. We take our knocks, laugh at each other and ourselves and get the job done. All of this while still being respectful to one another.

I am not sure how it would be taken if I called someone a cannuck so I would only use this term with someone I know would not be offended if I used it at all. You just have to use your best judgement.

I would not worry about it too much there is going to be people that would be offended by saying hello to them.
