99 Trailblazer: a few problems....
#1
Wow long time since I've been on these boards..... Well, my 99 trailblazer has a few problems.
1. The electric start does not work. When I press it all I hear is a loud click. If I hold it down for about 10-15 seconds i hear a small rumble, but it never starts. Whats going on?
2. The front bumper thing (stock oem) is really messed up on mine and it definitely needs replacing. Anyone know of any good inexpensive aftermarket ones that will look good?
3. I can't seem to find a winch mount kit anywhere for trailblazers. Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance for any info!!

Ok for the first thing the starter may have went bad due to water. There is a small drain plug in the bottom of the starter for this reason. It must be drained if you have gone through some deep water. If it is not drained then the contacts in the starter corrode and go bad.
Second DG makes aftermarket bumper for about $100. They look awsome too. Or Polaris makes a pretty cool looking bumper but is around $200.
And last there is no winch mount for a trailblazer but 1 can be made easily. I have seen winches on them.

Sounds like your starter stopped starting.
An easy check is to take a DC test light, clip the ground to ground, place the probe nut under the rubber wire cap on the starter, and try to start it.
1.If the light comes on, your starter is defective - maybe just needs brushes, or could need a rebuild (as long as the armature windings are not defect). Could be cheaper to just pick up a new starter off Ebay if you are not mechanically inclined.
2. If the light does not come on, then there is a problem with the solenoid or cable from solenoid to starter.

Ok haven't gone to pull that plug yet.....
Quadwrench, If I touch those two wires behind the battery when I start it, I can feel them jolting (with the wire cover stuff etc..). The click comes from there.

Thats the solenoid - the click is the internal contacts coming together as power is applied to start. Most problems are with the starter, but I have seen solenoids with burned contacts that don't let battery voltage get through to the starter - that's the reason for testing for voltage at the starter first - process of elemination by starting at most probable cause.

Quadwrench, so its the contacts that are burnt and thats why it won't start?? Is that something I can fix myself or should I take it to the local Polaris dealer?
