Default Predator and YFZ450-close race

Finally got to go against the new YFZ450 this weekend. We have a strip about 350 ft we raced all day on and it was close every race. I would win or tie if I would not miss a gear. It was close every race depending on who would get the jump at the start. They kept trying different riders as well and jetting. We both have a pipe, dynojet kit, and K @N filter. I have a 38 rear sprocket. They are quick and light machines but with the same modes I do not see much of a difference. They are not beating the predator and raptors by 15 quad lengths like the Yamaha dealer was telling us they would.

Lot's of great choices out there. I think you'll find the same results when the public finally gets the Honda 450 also.

not many quads will blow another quad away by very much.. at the max 5-7 lenghs... assuming that they are a comparably quads and 1 isnt decked out.

I have only beaten one yzf and it was o a mx track in NJ, I dont think the kid was a good rider but we were both in 4th gear and i was pulling away, it will be interesting to see how the predator does agaisnt the YZF 450 and TRX 450 in a dirtwheels shoot out

they did a shootout between the yfz and the predetor. They even said that the yfz shouldnt have been put against it because they are in completely different classes. They said the yfz beat it by about half a quad length. They are both good

With the same mods most YFZ450's will beat the predator in 300' by about 1-2 quad lengths. Sounds like the YFZ450 you raced was not jetted properly. The first clue is the Dyno jet kit which nobody recommends for the YFZ. Have your friend switch to the Keihn jets and get the needle for the dirtbike. I have 2 YFZ's in my garage and have raced many predators at the drag races in 300' and the predators give the YFZ good competition but they are always 1-2 bike lengths behind with equal mods.

If you have the time and a broadband connection here is a video of our last outing with the YFZ's at the drags. There are a few Predators in the clip. The video is about 100MB

Hmmm, in all actuality, the Predators in the north-central region of the country were beating the 450's all summer long at sanctioned events. They're all good. Pic your fave...we need some C'dales to show up this next year, get some great competition going.

jammer42 - We raced the YFZ450's totally stock with a rejet and got times averaging aroun 5.7. We then did the cam mod and turned times averaging 5.5. There are 3 predators at the NYATVDRA where we race and they vary from stock to pipe and filter mods and we consistantly beat them all quite easily. We will be doing a port and polish, larger carb and pipe for this upcoming season and hope to get under 5 seconds. If you are turning 4secs on the predator than my hats off to you because that is screaming. Our YFZ's would need some major motor work to turn those kind of times. The fastest machine we have is a LT frame with an Artic cat 1100cc triple on Nitrous and he turns around 4.1secs. This is on a dirt track.

modquad - We have a C-Dale with a pipe and turn 5.5's on it as well. Problem is there really is not much room for improvement on the C-Dale. Limit is around 52RWHP and I have heard of people getting 70RWHP out of the YFZ's.

DirtDragon - Are the red lights win lights or start too early lights? Just wondering - looks like people had a great time there. That was one he!! of a Banshee running!

The flashing yellow lights at the end of each race are win lights. You can't see the red lights from the back. The last few races are bracket racing so keep that in mind too!
