Default Just Purchased 04 Scrambler

After 4 weeks of looking for the right quad and getting the right price. I just picked it up today. Now being that this is my first owned 4wheeler I just want some tips/tricks to make my machine peak to its top perfermance. Do I have to treat it like im pushing a baby down the street for the first few hrs? or can i just go ***** to the wall? Let me know what i should/ shouldnt do the first few times taking it out, and what i can do to maintain it after i ride each time. Also, the Parts dood there sold me this Moose airfilter along w/ the PJ1 Foam filter cleaner spray and treatment spray and of course had to throw in this full synthetic premium 4 ow/40 oil. Im no mechanic obvioulsy, but im not bringing it to a dealer to do oil changes either. Is all this stuff good to have? or did he just want more money to go to the bar with. Thanks for helping me out !

You do have to brake it in first 5 hours or so, go easy on it for a while.. I would change the oil offen during brake in... Yes you do have to run 0w/40 synthetic oil there is 3 companys that make 0w/40 oil that i know of AMSOIL,MOBIL,POLARIS.. The reason you need to run 0w/40 if you go any other weight there is a good chance the top end wont get the oil it needs... Change your hub fuild(polaris or mobil synthetic ATF type F), front(80-90) and rear gear case oil(polaris or amsoil chain case oil), Grease all your fittings, Valves need to be adjusted every 100hours(you will need a service manual) Adjust the chain as needed clean and oil after every ride... Keep your air filter clean...

I think thats it If i were you i would get a service manual..ASAP its very helpful
Hope this helps

If i forgot anything Bigbad will fill in the gaps...

Good choice on a good machine. If you plan on doing your own work, get yourself a Factory Polaris service manual. It will have all your service changes and how to do them. You dealer should have told you the break in period. If he didn't maybe someone can chime in here. I bought mine used so I don't know. But, your oil, trans, hub, and front diff fliuds need to be changed every 100 hours, as well as your valves need to be adjusted. I believe they need to be changed after the initial 20 hours or so. Drain your starter/recoil housing, more often if you ride in wet conditions. I lube my chain before every ride. I found that TriFlow does the best at that. Grease your zerks about every 25 hours. Use synthetic grease on that. Make sure you keep your chain deflection within spec. It will stretch. Other than that, take care of it and it will take care of you. But if you plan on doing you own work, a service man. will be a life saver. Have fun

Thats an interesting question? Im not to sure how the law is in your state. Are you refering to riding with a rifle during hunting season, or just carring a concealed weapon? Cuz if you want to carry a concealed weapon here in MI, I believe that you can just as long as you have your liscence.
