Default Just picked up my first ATV

Picked up a 2000 500 Sportsman from the dealer. It had a decent amount of miles (1900) but seemed clean and well taken care of. I am just wondering what I should be looking out for? Are there any quirks or common parts that go bad? I have no problem fixing it myself but would like to keep my eyes open for deals on parts for the thing. Any suggestions on what to watch out for? Any help appreciated. Jay

Thanks guys!

I have already spent much of my work day at Partsland looking over the schematics. I cleaned her up to night and discovered the boots are just starting to look a little warn on the back CV's so that will be a project for this winter. One wheel is squeeking a little bit so I am going to pull it off and see what is up with that. What is the stock PSI for the tires on the 500? I found all four tires flat when I was cleaning it up. Explains the steering being so stiff. I put them around 32 -33lbs. Otherwise some scratches but nothing unusual for a a machine that has 1900 miles on it. It shifts pretty easy though at times it does not wanna go in. You have to let go of the shifter and roll her just a little bit and then it slips right in. I traded my 2001 Suzuki katana in straight up for it from the dealer and so far I am pleased. My plow is suppose to be in tomorrow. A country cycle plow with manual lift. And I am bidding on some new front tires on ebay. Hopefully take it to Pennsylvania this weekend and have some fun with her. Jay

Thanks man,

I will drop them down. I didn't realize they were that low. The tires say max 45psi on them so they better not blow. Jay

Thats max seating pressure. You can not exceed 45psi to seat the beads but once beads are set then drop down to about 7psi.
