Default How to change starter

I have a 2001 Trailblazer that will start easily when using the pullstart but only clicks when trying to use the starter. I believe the battery is good but would like to check out the starter. How easy is the starter removed. I have the quad standing upright on the grab bar, what next?

Sounds like the solenoid near the battery is bad or dirty, clean the connections and then go from there. You can actually bypass the solenoid with a screwdriver or a pair of pliers, just hold it on the positive and negative terminals of the solenoid and i bet it will start.Good luck.

I doubt it's the selnoid...polaris starters are finicky, especially if you ride in any mud or water. Basically, it's a crappy operation to get the starter out!! You need to pull the flywheel cover where teh recoil is, because 1 bolt resides inside to remove the starter, the other 2 are on the outside. It is possible once the bolts are out to drop the starter out the bottom...but there is lots of swearing. Remove both your primary, and secondary clutch and pull out the back shield, takes an extra 10-15 min, but much easier and less busted knuckles and blood! And if you don't need the starter, I would just recommend putting in a starter block off and using pull start...will save you $150-300 rebuilding or replaceing the starter everytime it shells...! Cuase if you ride water, it will happen again...soon.
