Default My Chain is Thirsty !

Wow that didint work out the way i wanted it to.. The question i was asking is my chain needed lube bad. Rust was starting to show. I dont have any Chain Lube that you guys reccommended or ANY chain lube for that matter. All I had around the house was WD40 i put that on just temporary till i get the good stuff. I heard WD40 wasnt reccommended for this type of use. Am i good? or was this a mistake putting WD40 on it. Thanks

If your chain is rusting you have already gone past the point of mattering what you put on it. Gobbing on some Crisco is better than not puting anything on it while you wait to get some "good stuff". WD40 falls into that catagory also. I'm not sure, but WD40 may cause your O-rings to deteriate if you have them. Another problem is there is nothing in it to make it stick to your chain. But if you don't have anything else, use it. When you get chain lube, clean your chain before you spray it on.

Clean the chain with kerosene and lube with 80/90w. This is right off the box of the new chain I put on my quad yesterday. My buddy always uses bar chain oil. I use to laugh at him, but his chain is in better shape than mine was.

RookieRacer, a good was to keep your chain in prestine condition is to get yourself a chain scrubber. Rocky MT ATV sell a Uneek Chain scrubber with SLudge Away for $20. It does a great job of cleaning all the gunk out of it, and is safe with O-rings. Then lube it down good with some Triflow. You wont have to clean it that often with the Triflow on it. Nothing wants to stick to that stuff!!

lol, I guess I'm not alone then, I use bar/chain oil too and it works great, you just have to put it on more often than chain lube. Worked great on my warrior's chain and hasnt let me down yet on the scram's chain. If your chain is rusted I'd just go ahead and spring for a new one before she eats up your sprocket. I saw some scrambler chains WITH SPROCKETS for like $45 on ebay...not bad at all....

PJ1 or any chain lube work good but make a little mess. Have also used WD-40 for years and it hasnt hurt the O-rings at all. Just keep her lubed one way or another. If it has some rust, thats no biggie. Clean it off real nice and lube it up. Good as new.
