Finally decided on what ATV to buy, my first Polaris 500 RSE. I would like to know the price people feel I could get this fine machine for? My dealer has said the Polaris 500 RSE w/winch stalled is $7750. I have not at this time done any series negotiation with him and will do so real soon. I also notice a site where you can get dealers cost, does anyone know what the dealers cost of this machine is?

List price is around $7500. The dealer over here will throw in the Warn 2000lb winch with installation, for $7200, or $7100 w/o winch. That's everything but tax and title.

Some dealers won't deal at all and charge above retail, and add freight, setup, etc. Some deal way down low and don't add other cost.

The dealer makes about $1000 +/- profit on most of 500 models. Keep in mind though that the dealer has to make his money too so he can stay in business and afford to pay for his own toys!

I believe my dealer sells them for $7000, but that was last year. A winch is usually anywhere from $250-$500, depending on the brand and model.

Machias,

The dealers here charge $800 (Canadian) extra for the RSE. The only differences between the RSE and the regular green Sportsman are:

1. The green plastic has camo cloth "permanently" bonded to the surface. A matte clearcoat is then sprayed over the camo cloth. Be aware that this finish is not as durable as the straight plastic. Use the search button at the top right of the screen and search for my previous posts on the subject. For search criteria use RSE, search the Polaris area using my name Deej. I was considering the RSE until I talk to others about the finish and experimented with the chipping of the finish (it chips and the green plastic shows through!)

2 - Front and rear Polaris bumpers.

3 - Rear rack extender.

That is it. Other than that the RSE is identical to a green Sportsman. Is the extra $800 worth it? That's up to you. Once I heard about, and saw the chipping of the finish, I left it at the dealers.

Read some of the posts you find with the search button. There is some good research there.

I found this while I was surfing yesterday.http://www.atvprice.com/..For a small amount they will give you dealer cost for atv's & snowmobiles. But remember most dealers have alot of overhead to pay for. We paid 6795 for a RSE plus TAX. here in Mi.(no wench) just three months ago. It was a month before the free wench promo. came out.

I believe you should be able to get one out the door befor taxes for around $6700. The wench may be free to you but the dealer has a buy in so expect to pay an additional $200? Make an offer and if the dealer says you are being unreasonable, ask to see his cost and offer him a fair profit margin. He stands to make service dollars in the future also so he should listen to a reasonable offer.

Where can I get one of those wenchs? Always thought I wanted a winch for the Sportsman, but a wench would be a great free accessory to get. Where am I going to store her so the wife doesn't find out ...

Thanks for the good advise. So if I do not go with the RSE, what is the best method to CAMO with the fender and seat cover kits or camo tape.

Machias,

The intend was not to scare you away from the RSE, but, I guess it sorts was.

Lots of people have them. FloodRunner has a '99. He did experience some chipping and had some panels replaced by the dealer. He now has the heavy abuse areas (front of the rear fenders) covered with camo tape. His intention is to pull it off just prior to selling the unit. Will the finish come off when he does this? Who knows.

I really fell in love with the look of the RSE, but changed my mind.

Camo tape or camo covers. Good question. Use the search function and search all areas for "camo". There is a recent post here in Polaris about the tape and I saw anotherone here or in Honda about camo fender covers.

Go green to hide - no camo required. Ya don't go yellow to hide!
