96 SPORTSMAN PROBLEM
#1
I went riding with my brother the other day.His machine was running great. Then we both hit a little jump in the trail, we went about 100 feet and his started to stall like it was running out of gas. So I told him to switch to reserve he did but it still wouldnt start. We sat there for about five minutes and it started back up, he rode it back to my house, but it wasnt running very good.I pulled the fuel filter off it was fine, I then pulled the fuel pump off and its pumping fine .I can go out there now while its cold it will run great but after its warmed up it starts running crappy.Has anyone had any similar problems or anything I might try before it goes to the shop.

Did you put in a new spark plug? May not be related to the jump at all. Whenever I'm faced with an engine not running right I reach for a new plug first. At a buck something you can't go wrong, shoot for simple things first.

I think the problem is in the carb, my 95 Sportsman will stahl or bog down when getting air on the whoops on the trail and otherwise run great. I have been told to rebuild the carb because the float is sticking. I have the complete service manual, but have not looked it up yet.

For sure change the plug first then if you foul a plug again likely your carb is worn. I have worked on so many carbs on Polaris ATVs I can do with my eyes closed. Needle and needle jet and while your there a float valve will cure a lot of problems.
