What octane fuel do you use? I use 92 octane for my magnum.

I run 87 in all my bikes.
There just stock motors so you won't see any more power out of the extra octane.
From what I've been told only built motors need anything over 87.
or a high compression stock motor like the YFZ need at least 91 i've heard.

I always choose the lowest possible octane. By definition, the higher the octane the harder it is to light and the slower it burns. If you run higher than needed, you give up power! The down side is when you run too low an octane, you get preignition AKA spark knock. The preignition happens when you have enough heat and compression to ignite the air/fuel mixture before the spark plug sparks. This can/ WILL damage your engine if not addressed quickly.

I have stock engine compression on all of my Toys so I run 87 octane to get maximum power.

I run 92 octane in my 2002 trailboss haven't ever noticed a difference but i also never knew that you could lose power from that. Oh well you learn something new everyday.

I buy the 92 octane only because my quad might sit for weeks between rides and I know the octane rating will start to decline over time.

Alot of people think it is the other way around thanks to all of the advertising the octane booster companies do. A very high compression engine needs high octane to run and not spark knock. So the big hp guys all run high octane, which could make you think the fuel makes the power, but just the other way around the power needs the fuel

Will higher octane prevent carbon buildup in the chamber? Please clear the air for me.....higher octane means lower fuel consume and lower octane to higher fuel consume for most stock engines? I am no expert on fuel characteristics.

A clean burn is a complete burn. Too high of an octane will cause an incomplete burn, more carbon build up. You see TV ads and what not pushing the more expensive Premium fuel such as "Drive your engine clean" The higher grade fuels have MUCH higher mark up and profit. Yes the higher grade fuels have more additives to clean your fuel system, but they are not needed! All the fuel grades are the same from the refinery and from the truck. After the fuel is pumped into the tank, they add a surprisingly small amount of additive to boost the octane and the detergent.

The rate of fuel used will not change from octane to octane.

You will get a LITTLE more fuel economy with the lower octane do the increase in power, you may use a little less throttle.
