Polaris Update/Cold starting 600&700 Plus P
#1
If you have a Polaris 600/700 Models..Polaris came out with a update for cold weather starting and better performance...Sept/2003. Your Polaris dealer has this update ..it requires taking off the carb and re drilling and rejeting...Its NO Freebee...parts are around $35.00 plus 1 hour labor...the Good thing is it does greatly improve starting theses cold hearted beasts and improves performance as well...around $75.00..But it does work...and all Polaris dealers has the sept/2003 update...its worth it.

Not to sound brand - bashing, but my 95 Wolverine had carb issues when new, Yamaha came out with a jet and set up recall, no charge, I find it puzzling that a large company like Polaris won't offer this update as a recall, and not charge the customers, it would go a long way to make them look more customer relations friendly, has anyone contacted Polaris to find out why it is an "update" and not a recall ?

In my opinion the dealer it was purchased from should have made these type of adjustments before it left the door. Especially if it is in a cold weather area...

hey pest, thanks for the link!!! The only complaint I've got about my "03 sp600 is that the carb has never been set right since day 1!!!
I think I'm going to do the updat myself, since the last time my bike was in to the dealer for warranty work...(the plastic ebs jam nut had
come loose causing it to have a max speed of about 40 mph)...they left the breather tube disconnected from the air box, carb mount screws loose, grommets in fram for carb mount rorn, and air tube to clutch housing disconnected!!! I hope this update will once and for
all make this thing run like it should! I'v had to warm it up even in 5o plus degree weather or else it backfires and runs like crap!!!
---also, How do you monitor the engine rpm to adjust idle speed??? I've read it is done throught the speedo is this correct???
or cab I measure it using the secondary ign. clamp hooked to my fluke meter??? Thanks for the help! Dan.

MnFriesen, that's why I said ONE of the coldest places. A comment I might expect from somebody who lives in the WARMEST part of the state LOL. I'm surprised some of the Alaska readers haven't called me on that one yet. No argument interior Alaska is much colder, but I had a friend in college from Anchorage (on the coast) and he froze here all winter long. I have found Bombardier ATV's (made in Canada) to be weak winter starters also. They also have had "customer pay" cold weather kits available for some of their ATV's. What's the deal? The further north a wheeler is made the worse they start in the winter? The best winter starters I have seen are the utility Hondas with carb mounted primer buttons and I think they are made in one of the Carolina's. Anyway, I agree the cold weather kit should be covered by the mfg, at least while the machine is still under warranty.
