I know that this is an old topic, but my riding buddy needs greasable tie rod ends for his SP500. Can someone tell me where he might get these, and how much?
See, not everyone with a Honda is obnoxious.

Hey,Recon, I pulled my tie-rods off today, cleaned them out,(with solvent) then pulled the rubber covers back a little took a chainsaw bar greaser and got them lubed back better than new. My '99 SP rods don't have zerts, but they were full of sand and mud so I had to clean and fix. Mine now steers better than it ever did even when new! just a suggestion. good luck Polcat

The best bet is to replace the original rod ends with Hiem rod ends. They can be picked up at your local bearing supplier for about 1/3 of the price of Polaris rod ends and are far better quality. Some modifications need to be performed but nothing a good DIY'r couldn't do.
Hope this helps.

What year is the Sportsman?

The latest units have new improved Heim style joints that are very good. They do not have zerks but are excellent joints. They can be threaded directly onto the tie rods of the '99 and '00 units. The older units have different tie rods.

I agree with deej. The new tie rod ends are a much sturdier design.

Recon, if your friend is running stock tires the new style hiem joints will fit on his machine. If he’s running bigger tires on stock rims they won’t. Tell him to go to the Polaris dealer and order tie rod ends for the ’99 1/2 or later Sportsman, but get the bolts, washers and nuts too. They’re necessary for mounting and don’t come with the joint. If you’re doing a conversion you’ll need them and most parts guys won’t know enough to tell you that. The bolts are 10mm with a slightly odd pitch to the thread. NAPA sells nylock nuts for them though, my choice over the castlated nut and cotter pin. They can be greased with a hypo needle attachment to the grease gun.

Polaris guys aren’t all bad either (but you knew that or you wouldn’t be in here)

The new joints are much better, I filled the rubber boots with grease and sealed them off with a water clamp seems to be working pretty good...
