Ok I was wondering what the EBS does. I understand what it means -Engine Breaking System- But what does it exacally do??? people say it slows you down and they don't like it...well isn't that what it's suppose to do for you?

It is a one way "sprag" that won't let the Polaris clutch disengage and go into freewheel. It feels just like your 200 when you let off the gas in gear.
By the way--when the Honda 110 was quite the three wheeler that 200 would have looked like quite the high performance rig.

I need a new quad badly don't you think gardner?
(you also made me feel better after what you said about the 110...LOL I guess mine would have been better than that.

I personally like to hill climb. So therefore,EBS is needed on my quad. With shift or clutch type quads, while descending a large steep hill, you can shift your quad to 1st gear to keep it from free wheeling down the hill.

On auto type trans, there is nothing to assist the quad from just free wheeling down the hill except your brakes.Thats where EBS comes in and helps.Without it,you free wheel down the hill and that could be dangerous if it were a steep hill descend.EBS holds you back, and it DOES work.I had it as standard equipment on my 99 Sportsman and I had it added to my 00 Xplorer.====Bill

You're confusing apples and cumquats, ATV_MAN.

N/A means, "not applicable." EBS is N/A to a gear-driven machine like yours, but meaningful in the continuously-variable belt-drive (automatic) transmission (like Polaris') context.

You may be in the wrong forum; I don't think you could read and understand Bill Ciliberti's post above and ask such a question.

Maybe you can't read Tree Farmer

I didn't say I had EBS on my manual shift quad ok, I just said it felt like having EBS going down hill.

i don't quite understand your comment....

on your machine you have a five speed, gear driven tranny. the polaris automatic quads have a CVT, belt driven transmission.

when the throttle is off on the cvt transmission, the belt dissengages. kinda like putting you into nuetral and free-wheeling down hills. this is very un-nerving. i have ridden a prarie 400 ounce and never again because of this fact.

when the throttle on your machine is off it stays in gear. the gears in your transmission use the engine compression to slow the quad down.

even though the polaris quads are available with the EBS option there still are shortcomings to it when compared to the gear driven quads. the enginhg braking on the polaris quads only effect the rear wheels. this can cause the back end wanting to come around while coming down a steep slippery hill. the system can be "tricked" into 4-wheel ebs, or good riding technique will solve this.

ebs does slow the top end of the quad by a few mph, but the benifits out weight this cost if you do any kind of riding in hilly terrain. besides if you want top end speed you can forget ultility or even sport-utility quads. if ya want to end get an all out sport/high-performance quad.

i don't know if this anwsers your question but i tried

It is a well proven fact that a belt driven bike without EBS will go down the side of a mountain faster than any other bike made.

Admittedly, I AM a careless reader, ATV_MAN!

I thought you wondered why your gear-driven ATV exhibited engine compression braking, when your machine doesn't even have EBS.

You obviously grasp the fine distinction between gear-driven and belt-driven drivetrains; my apologies.
