Do I have to use polaris oil and filter?(first oil change)

I got a sp 600 2003 and i was wondering if i could'nt use another brand of oil besides polaris? or do I gooottt to use polaris oil 0w40? Also is there any other brand for the filter? and is it going to mess with the bike?

If polaris recomends using their oil you should use it......My buddy put mobil 1 sythetic in his but he does just until he gets enough money to go buy polaris oil.....But i recomend using the polaris oil.....

You have to run 0w40 oil, Polaris does this because the top ends might not get oil in cold weather etc.. These are the other companies that make 0w40 that i know of: Mobil 1, amsoil and polaris all of those are ok.. I am not sure of any other filters for the 600 engine, In till someone recommends a filter that works well i would use the polaris filter...

Hastings does make the filter (Amsoils supplier, but I can't find the cross referance in my book) and Amsoil does carry a 0w 40 that will work just fine in the sportsman.
