reed spacer any good?
#1
I was wondering what I could expect from a reed spacer? The adds say low to mid range improvement. I think of a tunnel-ram intake when I see a reed spacer and the tunnel-ram is for high rpm's. Not so on a 2-stroke?

I can't say I know for sure what the reed spacer function is
I bought a set for my snowmachine once and they claimed that on my particular model (yamaha 700)
the transfer ports were partially obstucted by the reed cage so by pulling them back a bit the throttle response
improved due to a smoother transition to the transfer ports
I can't comment on the improvement as I put a package into it all at the same time pipes, reeds, spacer trimmed the piston skirts
and clutching so it is impossible to say what effect they actually had.

Other than modifying performance, one of the main benefits of the reed spacer is to increase the distance of the reeds from the combustion process. Heat and vibration are two big enemies of any composite material, which the reeds are made of. Hence, longer service life.

I put a set on after all of my other mods. I don't know if I actually make more power or not, but it definately accelerates quicker. Now putting them on a stock or slightly modded quad may not give the same results.
