I have seen a number of posts regarding this topic but no definitive answers. Does anyone know what part numbers to order to replace the old rod ends with the new style rod ends? I saw on an earlier post that it is cheaper to buy the parts seperately from Polaris than the kit Polaris is selling. What part numbers should be ordered seperately to save the money? Also, is their an "aftermarket" heim rod end that works and if so does anyone know where it can be purchased and a part number?

Polaris new style outer tie rod end part numbers.

Bolt: 7517674 2 required-1 on each side
Rod End: 7061054 2 required-1 on each side
Washer: 7556099 4 required-2 each side,1 above and 1 below strut housing.
Can Reuse castle nut

I doubt an aftermarket rod end would be a direct replacement. The rods are metric and have different sizes for the rod and pivot. All "heim" joints I've seen had the same size for both. ie. 1/2-20 rod threads and 1/2" pivot hole.

If youre interested in aftermarket rod ends go to the thread Tie Rod Ends...A Fix Is On The Way. It shouldnt be too hard to find, someone"brought it back" a few days ago. These rod ends require a little modification but all the parts( nuts bolts and bushings)can be purchased at your local hardware store. The rod ends I used came from Motion Industries, look them up to see if there is one near you. Refer to the thread I mentioned for more info.

you can get 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch hiem joints w/grease fittings for 13.00 bucks a piece from motion..i just got mine..for the eyelet just buy a 1/2 to 3/8 inch reducing bushing, (2) 3/8x1-1/2 inch bolts grade 5, i got them with allen heads so they dont get in the way, (4) 3/8 nuts,2 non locking to be used for spacers between the strut and the hiem joint..oh the hiem joints, you need one left and one right hand thread..that should do the trick,,i have heard these are more durable than stock, and for 30.00 you cant go wrong..good luck

I just bought the newer tie-rod-ends today from the local dealer. I'm replacing the ones on my 99, I was going through a pair every other month. Anyone have experiences with the new ones going bad? They are the horizontal round ones with a rubber gasket on both sides.

my 2000 magnum has the new style ends..they were about 7 mos old and about 70 hours on them when i noticed they had play in them..there not junk but they do have play..i guess they last longer than the old ones but not that much for what you pay for them..im going to try the aftermarket hiem joints to see how long they last..like i said in the other post, for 30 bucks its worth a try..just curious what did the new ends and bolts, etc cost you from polaris?

I put the new tie-rod ends on my 98 Scrambler, purchased them from the dealer $46 a piece. I wont be doing that again. I will try the aftermarket ones.

where do you get the Heim ends? I'd like to have a pair on hand when these blow out.

You can buy after-market Heim joints for any local bearing supplier. In my area we have an outfit called Commercial Bearing and they carry 2 types of Rod-Ends one is "Heim" and the other is a knock off of Heim at about 2/3 the price of the OEM Heim joint. I went for the cheaper knock off to save a little cash and I am very happy with them so far.

Time will tell.
