Default 2002 SP 500 HO question

On the bottom of the carburetor there is a small hose and a valve or filter attatched to it and it doesn't connect to anything. I smelled raw gas and saw gas run from it when I reved up the engine. Is this normal or is the mixture too rich. How can I correct this if it isn't supposed to do this? Thanks

That’s the carb bowl vent line. The tube inside is supposed to be above the fuel level. If you have gas running out consistently, you may need to adjust your float level. As for the small disk like valve that attaches to it, I’m still trying to figure that one out myself. I recently rolled my 4 wheeler and when I sat it back up, it acted like it was starving for fuel. I unplugged this line and it ran like a champ. I think whatever that disk is went bad on mine. I haven’t gotten a chance to get back to messing with it but I didn’t find it in the parts catalog.

I am new to all this. I just bought this one few days ago. How do I adjust the float to get the level down? Thanks!

Yep the disk is a one way valve, it will let gas out, but not let water in. As for the float level, it is unlikely that the level is off. It could be possible, but I doubt it, I would lean toward the choke being out of adjustment instead, but If everything is running good and there are no problems, I would leave it alone.
