Sportsman 500 HO ?
#1
I'm new to this forum, and I hope some of you can help. I'm in the market for a new atv to use this summer for the purpose of checking boll weevil traps. The traps will be spaced 350 feet apart: there will be approx. 1000 traps to be checked every week, so I'll be travelling only 350 feet, then stop, check the traps and go 350 more feet. I want an automatic transmission so I won't have to be shifting all the time, preferably an IRS to be easy on my behind, and something that won't run hot on my legs. Will a 500 HO fit the bill? Will the transmission hold up under all the starts and stops? Thanks.

It sounds to me like your bike is going to be sitting and ideling a lot.
I've heard on these forums before-and I don't know if it's true or not-that the 500HO doesn't like to sit and idle for any length of time. I don't know first hand if it's true or not but I recall a 500HO owner stating this.
Maybe the 400 or 600 would be better if this is the case?
Can anyone clear the ideling deal up with the 500HO?

Well I guess the guy didn't know what he was talking about then
Sounds like the 500HO will suite your needs. It is a very cumfy ride for an ATV. And lots of power for when you're feeling bold during the monotiny of work

Whatever I get will definitely be doing a lot of idleing, as well as a lot of starting and stopping. I don't want to get something that may have problems in these areas. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what would be the best atv for this job? Thanks
