Default SP700 Carb jets

I've been reading with great intrest the latest posts on the carb upgrades for the SP 700. I tore into my carb the other night and was surprised to find a 162.5 main jet when the parts manual listed a 155 as stock. I'll admit I don't have that much experience with carb tuning so any expertise would be appreciated. I did notice the plugs were black which indicates rich, but how much... if I dropped down to a 157.5 main how would that effect performance? I am trying to cure some of the typical cold start problems. Has anybody successfully done this (short of buying the EFI 700!) If so, what #'s on the jets, springs, etc. how far out was the pilot screw adjusted? Currently sitting at 2 1/2 turns out and has a horrible bog off idle during warm up. Also, I am at about sea level.

Default SP700 Carb jets

Not sure what I did but my post didn't go through..ooops I have the '02 SP700, and like many others am having some cold start issues. I have been following some of the threads regarding carb upgrade kits but they all seem to apply to the '03 &'04 models. I recently tore into my carb to find a #162.5 main jet where the parts manual says there should be a #155. I am running at sea level and really am unsure as where to begin. I noticed the plugs were black indicating a rich condition and am wondering if a #157.5 would be the right choice or would I get too lean. As it is, it will start & idle with the choke (may have to toy with the throttle a bit) but if I try to rev the motor it just dies. Once it is warm, everything seems to be OK. Has anybody out there successfully cured the cold start blues (short of buying the 700EFI ) ? If so, what were the jet sizes, where was the pilot screw set (currently at 2 1/2 turns out). Also, I have the K&N filter if that makes a difference.

Gordy I have a 02 sp700 and Ive had the carp off many times playing with the jets.up and down in all sizes.with a K-N filter and a aftermarket muffler Ive found the 157.5 to be the best all around main jet.A guy I ride with has a sp600 and runs a dyno jet in his and loves it...

POLARIS HAS A FACTORY RECOMENDED CARB JETTING UPDATE FOR ALL 02 & 03 MODELS. THEY SAY IT HELPS WITH STARTING AND IMPROVED THROTTLE RESPONSE. IT INCLUDES MAIN JET, NEEDLE JET, JET NOSSLE AND CV SLIDE SPRING. WE HAVE SOME ON ORDER, BUT ONE PART IS ON B/O UNTILL 02-10-04.

The carb upgrade is what late model 04s have stock. It includes changing the pilot jet, jet needle and needle jet and the slide spring. The 600s and 700s are a little different from each other. After installing the new stuff you have to readjust the idle mixture also.
All 03 and early model 04 twins may benifit from this.

SWEEKS, is there a part # for the entire kit or is it just piece by piece? If all the jets and springs are individual, could you pass those sizes or part #'s on? Thanks

Yeah, Sweeks, I would be curious what jets this new kit consists of. I have a 2004 SP700 but have no idea if I have the updated jets or not.

If you have the new fuel gauge and radial tires then you have the latest jetting. If you have the Goodyear rawhides then likley you have the old stuff.

Yeah, mine is the 04 not the 04 1/2, so I must have the older jetting. Does anybody know the part number or the specific jet sizes / changes?
