Glacier Plow
#1
The Polaris site says that the Glacier Plow can be lifted up to 13 Inches high with the manual lift. Does anyone know if the same lift height can be achieved with a winch on a 2004 Sportsman? I thought that I remember reading somewhere that the winch could not lift it that high for some reason - - hope i'm wrong.

No im pretty sure it can't be, im not sure why. What is you reason for going with the polaris plow?? My dealer wont even sell polaris plows, he only carries cycle country. He says that cycle country are heavier duty and are more easy to repair. They also will mount up to another brand of quad if you ever run into that option. Brad

Brad -
The Glacier Plow looks like it would be the easiest to mount and dismount. Owners say that there is little or no loss of ground clearance. With that being said, tell me about Cycle Country plows. How difficult are they to mount and dismount? I can get a .25 inch thick plow blade with the Glacier Plow if I go with the heavy duty commercial blade. How does this compare with Cycle Country? I'm undecided on exactly what to buy, so I would appreciated your input. The Glacier Plow just came out, so its long term serviceability is still an unknown.

The glacier plow is really sweet for easy installation. The atv winch lift may be a little less lift because it is fixed. The glacier frame mounted winch has a nylon web strap that attaches to the rack that is adjustable and you can get the full lift range. Watch that strap on sharp edges because I have seen one cut on the metal plate under the rack. A hose sliced down the middle across the plate solved that.

Sod we just got our too, but it is very heavy duty too. It mounts and dismounts with just pullling two pins. The actual installation is a longer process, but once you do it the first time, it is quick to dismount. I'm not sure, but can you replace the part of the blade that touches the ground on glacier plows?? On cycle country blades you can. They are a very good blade. I have some pics of ours in my pics page. Brad

Sod,
Have you looked at the Moose brand plows? I won't rant and rave about them just because I like mine so much, but if you want a quality product you should see one for yourself and compare.
If you buy Glacier I would definately recommend the heavy commercial blade, anything less just won't survive. The extra weight also helps the blade scrape down through the hardpack.
If lift height is a concern, my Moose lifts about 12 inches with the winch on my SP500.
