just thought Id open this thread back up,
has anyone tried these mods yet? I plan on tackling those mods tonight, I'll post the results. Ive been busy working on snorkeling the intake and exhaust, plus I got my Goodyear Mudruners mounted yesterday, dang they look good.

Yes I did. I couldn't find a two pin connector for the start mod, so I used some bullet connectors and made my own. It works good. For the AWD mod I did get the small 4 pin extension. I found it at the local trailer dealer. I stripped a small portion of the white wire, soldered on a short piece, and grounded it to the CDI mounting screw. It appears to function properly. The AWD light stays on in neutral and reverse. I haven't had it out to try it though. Using the extension pieces to do the actual wiring mods was a great idea. My hats off to ya 425Xpedition. These mods work great. I use them all the time. Now If i can just figure out how to get more power out of the motor. Working on a big bore setup. Also going to put the Scrambler cam and carb in the bike. If I can make this all the pieces work together I will have one kick-*** 465Xpedition.

well, got the AWD mod done, it works great. Havent got around to the start in any gear one yet, Ive had other things to do. I took mine out for a water test today and while idling in deep water(bottom of the seat)the bike will start to bog and i tried to hit the gas but it just died. Had to get it out and drain the carb to start it. Why is this happening? 425Xpedition, I know you had a similar problem recently, maybe you can help. Ive snorkeled the air intake, exhaust, and the vent lines including the one that goes to both sides of the carb, it was out of the water when it died. Also, after tinkering with it for a while, I went back in deeper( nothing but the handlebars out of water)and it went through no problem. But again I tried to let it idle in the water and it died. What could be the problem???

There is a drain line on the bottom of the carb. The carb will suck water up this line when it goes under. When you go in deep water put a plug of some sort in this line and the carb will not suck up water. If you leave the line at least a foot long just leave the plug in all the time. Just check it every now and then and make sure it is not full of gas or anything.

Id like to thank you again for the valuable information, I went to Fun Wheeler park this past weekend and my Xped performed well. There was one small annoyance though, I sometimes find it hard to start the first time. Once, we had stopped for a while and I had a difficult time getting it restarted. Along with the gearcase vents, I routed the vent(?) line that goes to EACH side of the carb up with my intake snorkel. This afternoon, I removed the extension from this vent and the machine fired right up like it used to. Im wondering if I shouldnt have extended this. What do you think??

When you ran the vent lines for did run them seperate or did you run them into the snorkel line? The vent lines need to see atmospheric pressure. If they are in the snorkel line they will sense the pulse from the carb sucking air in and it might make the float do some crazy stuff. The vent lines on my bike run up above the handlebars and I have not had any problems.

The vents run up the snorkel and are zip-tied to it, they are not inside the snorkel. I have them loosely tied so they form a loop, I wonder if that particular line is pinched, causing it to not vent properly? Its pretty flexible tubing, its possible I may have it pinched somewhere else, I'll keep looking
