Not sure about a new piston, but a new motor I usually mix a little synthetic oil in with my gas and then just keep it under half throttle for a tank or so of gas. I wouldn't beat on it atleast until I got 2 or 3 tanks through it.

well he will want to put extra 2 stroke oil in his tank... mix it richer than normal...
take it easy for a tank or so.. and dont heat up the engine alot... go for short ride.... 10-15 mins at a time and let it cool off before going again.

here we go with the controversy, I have broke in a few engines and i always do light break ins, i am never hard on my engines during that time. i may change the oil 5 times during break in... If your hard on it then your just going to ware out main caps, cam etc in his case he has a 2 stroke so he only has to worry about the piston, how can you rev something if the piston is not seated? that moto man is full of it IMO... I have been around engines all my life and i have yet to have one fail me with the way i break one in, maybe its because Fords are so good not sure.. I also broke in my scrambler and banshee this way and they are running like new still after countless hours on hard riding...

Well, what i did was ran it idle for 10 min, i premix now, i put in 25oz of oil for 5 gallons of fuel, and than after that run, let it sit over night, than the today i pushed my atv around to get the oil mixed around(just in case) and ran it 1/8 1/4 throttle for like 10 min, cool for an hr and 1/2
than 1/4 to 1/2 for 10 min, let it cool till engine was cool
than 1/2 to 3/4 twice with a cool down period inbetween and i went to change my needle and looked inside and ther seemed to be some scratches up and down, tiny but some, what do u think it could be, i have an exhaust temp gauge and everything was reading below the temperatures that they were supose to be at. So i'm just curious if ther is anything wrong??? please help!!

did you have the jug bored and honed? did you clean the cylinder wall very good before installing the new piston? did you put any break in lube or oil on the piston and cylinder wall?
