Default frame painting

hi guys i was just wanting to know if you have ever painted your frame i have a 95 scrammy and i want to paint it if so what is the best paint i want to powdercoat it but right now i dont have the funds since i just bought it last week and its been in the shop most of the time i dont know how much its gonna cost yet cuz they said they really havnt worked on it

Well, let me just say that Powdercoat is you best bet for protection and durability. However, if you are going to paint it use a high quality laquer or enamal paint. Something like engine paint would work OK. But keep in mind that you eventually get chips. Laquer paint would be your toughest though. Check out Duplicolor for some differnt products. They have some of the best spray paints on the market IMO

I'd stick to powder coating, that doesn't seem to me like something that you would want to re-do anytime soon! You definitely will if you paint it. If you need to save some coin, check with the powder coat guys and find out what you need to do for prep work, I've done that on a few items by getting them all ready to go so all they have to do is hang it, spray it, and bake it. Make sure you talk to them about the kind of gloves to wear and other little details as those are important issues...at least that is what my guys told me.

Powdercoating is the best way, and only way to go. If you are going to take all of the time to strip it down anyway, you might as well as do it the right way, and the way that will last you a long time, probably the life of the quad.

I agree powdercoating is the way to go.Save up some cash though,because you are probably looking at around $150 to $200.

i know its the best but dont i have to strip down my whole atv to do that i was thinkin of leavin my frame black because its ok and i just want to do some touch up work with red, white, or blue what do you think would look best with white plastic

You are correct ,to powder coat it the whole thing has to be stripped.

Hello,

If you're going to end up painting it, use Imron, by Dupont, it's fairly expensive, but it's the toughest paint out there.

02 Scrambler 400X 4x4, Blue
03 Trail Blazer 400, Black
04 Trail Blazer 250, Red
03 Trail Blazer 250, Freedom
03 Trail Blazer 250, Yellow
95 Explorer 400 4x4, Red
92 Trail Boss 250, Gray/Blue

I know the Sportsman frames are notorious for popping the powdercoat at the welds so I would consider something flexible like Line-X... You can get it in just about any color and it will never crack or chip.
