Well, let me just say that Powdercoat is you best bet for protection and durability. However, if you are going to paint it use a high quality laquer or enamal paint. Something like engine paint would work OK. But keep in mind that you eventually get chips. Laquer paint would be your toughest though. Check out Duplicolor for some differnt products. They have some of the best spray paints on the market IMO

I'd stick to powder coating, that doesn't seem to me like something that you would want to re-do anytime soon! You definitely will if you paint it. If you need to save some coin, check with the powder coat guys and find out what you need to do for prep work, I've done that on a few items by getting them all ready to go so all they have to do is hang it, spray it, and bake it. Make sure you talk to them about the kind of gloves to wear and other little details as those are important issues...at least that is what my guys told me.

Powdercoating is the best way, and only way to go. If you are going to take all of the time to strip it down anyway, you might as well as do it the right way, and the way that will last you a long time, probably the life of the quad.

I agree powdercoating is the way to go.Save up some cash though, because you are probably looking at around $150 to $200.

Hello,

If you're going to end up painting it, use Imron, by Dupont, it's fairly expensive, but it's the toughest paint out there.

I know the Sportsman frames are notorious for popping the powdercoat at the welds so I would consider something flexible like Line-X... You can get it in just about any color and it will never crack or chip.
