try the clamp on. you will have to rejett. i have more power with the clamp on. had good luck with it. dont listen to people that tells you it dont work. for 39 bucks plus jetts try it. you can get it from hot seat. im running 180 main 50 pilot and 2 and a half rounds on the air mixing screw. i have a buddy with a preddy and i was outrunning him bad and we fixed his the same as mine and now he can stay with my predator. my buddy is running 190 main with out the skin.

Hozed, I never had any problems with the airbox leaking in dirt. I think that if you take your time and make sure it is sealed properly it will work just fine, and I also use a little grease around the filter. Anyways, enough about that....If you are seriously considering these mods, I would call and talk to doug. He is very knowledgable about these things. I think the offers Lectron 48 and 44mm carbs, and Mikuni 45mm pumper carb. I'm sure he has tried the eldabrock, but don't be afraid to call and ask him some questions. It doesn't cost money to ask questions, and he is usually willing to answer them.

propolaris... i already got the clamp on and ive been runing it for a little while now... i thought i felt a loss with it...
i think i might call doug and atleast ask him what he suggest i should do... i am thinking about building/modifying my air tube to get the filter away from the carb a little bit... thats what everyone has in there kits so it should work... the only thing is their filters are alot bigger than the clamp on i got now...

I can shed some first hand experience on this.
I've got 2 troy lee preds and ride at sea level.
One with a clamp on K&N , and one with the snorkle with the square K&N in the airbox.
Troy Lee #1 runs a W/B silencer w/ 8 disks, K&N clamp on re-jetted to a 165 main, carb slide vacumm holes drilled up to 7/64", 3.5 rings of the vacumm spring trimmed off, needle raised a notch.
Troy Lee #2 is bone stock except for drop in square K&N.
From my seat of the pants calibrated sphinctometer, you don't LOSE power with the clamp-on K&N, but the throttle response is different as you get a bit of lag in the low/mid range.
By running a clamp on, you're dropping the intake air VELOCITY by removing the tapered intake snorkle. The taper causes an increase in airspeed as the diameter of the snorkle is reduced. While the Clamp on may provide more VOLUME of air, the velocity of the intake charge is slower, hence, the vacumm activated slide is more sluggish to open and you get a slight mid range rpm stumble.
Which works "Best"? I like the linear power of the snorkle for the stock #2 Troy Lee, its the wifes bike and one I let friends ride. I keep it de-tuned just to save the machine from people not used to modified power.
Troy Lee #1 pulls hard and strong now with the carb slide mod. It would hesitate or stumble (especially when cold) with just the Clamp on and proper jetting. The carb slide mod really helps make a faster reving response and helped cure any bogging or hesitation.
All these mods are cheap and easy to do. TRY IT YOURSELF and you can always just change it back to stock if you don't like it!

heapster what is the carb slide mod becuase i am running a clamp on with a 170 main and the needle on the fourth clip and it is bogging bad, i callled the company lteracing and he told me that it is not the air filter that is doing it,,,, he said i have to move the clip down one more and raise the jet to a 175.....

Hey can a 2-stroke guy get in here? Is the carb a CV style? How bout this click on the 'CV slide springs' I believe these are to compensate for a change in the vacuum carge in the carb. Can anybody verify this? These are probably less than a new carb for those who cant afford one

This discussion has been going on for a while over in the DS forum. The DS has the same carb as the Predator from the factory. There have been several dyno sessions aranged to test which intake set up worked the best. Mr Horsepower (Horsepower research) and also several time national dirt drag champion conducted several dyno test. Superbike shop did several dyno runs with the Predator to test intake set-ups. I was there to watch the test. The clamp-on lost power vs the snorkle set up in every dyno test. Superbike and Mr. Horsepower both got the same dyno results. There was just a couple weeks ago a dyno session scheduled with MrHorsepower, The Bom, and Arizona sand flew in from the west coast to test the lectron 46hv that was developed by Mrhorsepower vs the TM45 carb, during the test they tested with clamp-on vs Snorkle, same results, clamp on lost power. Seat of the pants can be deceiving, the dyno has already settled this discussion, it's just a matter if you want to believe it or not.
