fact or fiction (pred clamp on)

does the clamp on make you loose power... ive heard from some ds owners that it messes with the vaccum pressure and the carb wont work right... but then agagin i see alot of people running them on their preds...? does any1 actually know or have proof that it does or doesnt work?
thanks.
thanks.

We were going to put one my nephews Pred, but I saw a post that said they lost power. I would think if it's jetted right, you would get more power (better air flow). We've cracked the airbox from jumping, swingarm smacked it and cracked around 1/3 of the box. Right now it fixed with (what else) duct tape. Seems like a clamp on would be cheaper than a new box that might break again, so I'm interested if this power loss is true also.

Very curious about this myself. Hardrock motorsports says not to go directly to the carb..... not sure why..... should make for an interesting debate though. COME ON MOTORHEADS!!!! LITTLE INFO ON THIS SUBJECT PLEASE!!!!!!

I don't think you want to put the filter directly on the carb b/c of the above stated power loss. However, installing the filter on the end of the intake tube seems to be the more popular setup. I have one for mine from Rathracing.com, but have not installed it yet.

I don't understand how it could make power loss, usually more air is more power. I mean, yes you would have to rejet, but that would be no different from jetting it when you first got a k&n. As long as you have it jetted so the plug looks ideal, how could you loose power?? I must be missing something in here, probably a lack of knowledge on my part?

The clamp on filter will lose power with a stock carb, it's been dyno proven on the Pred. and the DS.
on an aftermarket carb you still need to keep the snorkle to smooth out the airflow before entering the carb. Dyno proven on the ds. I have one of dougs carbs on my bike right now, when i get on a dyno i will test the Lectron 48 with and without snorkle to see if there's a difference. Doug does alot of testing, he can probly tell you if there is a loss with the Lectron, but I dyno tested the stock carb and it does lose power without the snorkle.
