Hey guys,
As some of you know, I was thinking on buying a sportsman.. I really would like it for hunting and ice fishing and what not..But, I also want some speed and fun... Will the sportsman suffice? I was thinking maybe a SC500, No 2 strokes, to loud.. any suggestions??? Thanks..

Well the Scrambler is a nice in between quad, it is quiter than the 2 stroke and I am sure can do some slow riding with no trouble due to the 4 stroke, for me if it was shaft drive all the way around it would be almost perfect. I own a Sportsman and love it i have 800 miles on it and it s a 2000 model, so far it has gone through hell without so much as a squeak. But it is not really sporty, but it does what it is intended to do as good as any atv out there. Sportsman are allot of fun, not if jumping and wheelies are what you want to do but if going through deep mud rocks , roots, all around hell on earth type of terrain then it won't get any better than on a Sportsman. I went through the same dillema, the SC500 looks so good in the show room. but no low range and chain drive and the room to carry lots of stuff on the racks and carrying my girlfreind kind of swayed me towards the Sportsman, I am 110% satisfied.

That about sums it up right! The Scrambler is not the ideal quad for deep woods adventures with a passenger and a lot of lugage!

Your REALLY missing the boat by not trying the 00 400cc 4x4 Xplorer out.It is NOT loud at all and does'nt even smoke much.I've seen some 4 strokers that smoke more than my Xplorer. The Xplorer is 110 lbs lighter, faster, and more nimble than the Sportsman.I know,

''I own them both''====Bill

If you want a sporty/utility quad go with the Xplorer400. Drawback is:
-Chain Drive (little more maintanance)
-2 stroke (sounds like you dislike 2 strokes) I've heard the two stroke Polaris, and thay are VERY QUIET!!
Plus is:
-way more sporty (faster)
-suspension can take jumps (unlike Sp500)
Xplorer 400 is a middle of the road quad(sport/utility)

Sportsman drawback:
-cant take jumps
-made for more so utility/recreation (no sport)
Sp PLUS:
-can go anywhere (mini hummer)
-smoother ride
-more so heavy duty (work/offroad)
-shaft drive (less maintainance)

Dont get me wrong im just tryin to help ya! Both quads are very awesome!! You wont go wrong with any! Now go and have fun. (Aint that the whole point!??)
Any questions e-mail me, and I'll try to help you.

I am sorry I ddin't even think about the Xplorer 400 even though i ride with one a couple times a month, yeah it is a sweet quad. Very powerful and I would not worry about it being a two stroke it is very quite and reliable. I do not hear of any chain troubles on the 400, The person I ride with hers is a 98 and original chain and sprockets with over 2000 miles . And she goes all over hell with it. I would totally reccomend it. And if the post i just read is true wait for the 2001 and one model.

The 500 scrambler 98 and newer is rear chain only and very user friendly. It also pulls as hard as a sportsman. I beat 3 of them at this years 4 wheeler pulls (still lost to a traxter) it is a bone stock 98 scrambler with original chain (4 belts) the only thing lacking is rack space.

Hey guys,
Wont a SC500 kill a SP500?? Or what? How much heavier is the sportsman? I have ridden both, and enjoyed them both.. I will be riding with a Griz mainly.. Do you think I should go with the SP500 to compete?? This is killing me guys.

Well i would think the SP would be a better match to the Grizz than a SC500, the SC is faster than the SP how much I am not sure.
