Default hpd race pipe

hey guys,i really like the hpd race pipe simply because of its size near the leg area.my question is,how will the pipe be on a pretty much stock 400 scrambler?i have v-force reeds and spacer,a k&n filter charger directly to the carb.right now my fmf pipe just sucks,it dont fit right and it melted the plastic guard do had to take that off,now i burn my leg all the time..think the race pipe would be ok?or would a trail pipe be better?thanks

I'd give them a call. Obviously the race mod setup would utilize the pipe the best. If you're looking to eventually upgrade, they might have some tips that can save you some ching, yet still keep you rippin'.

From experience ,i would not run that pipe with the stock piston. The skirt will break if it is not cracked already. If you have a wiseco in it then you would be ok.But like Modquad stated you will not get the full benefit of the pipe without any porting.

ok thanks guys,so id be better off going with the trail pipe with the stock setup?the only reason i wanted the race pipe is so i would burn my darn leg..how hot does the trail pipe run?my fmf gets extreamly hot,so hot its changing to a purplish color, could it be caused by my jetting being off?

Get the trail pipe and have it jet hot coated, will make a big difference! No offense, but with a clutch kit and hpd trail pipe you'll feel like you have the race mod verses the pipe you have on there now. You would have no low end at all with a race pipe on stock engine!

I don't think the HPD crew has enough time to play "contractor" for your pipe coating. Once you get the pipe, you can contact jet-hot.com, and they'll hook you up. Have you double checked your jetting? Being too lean will also make things warmer then they need to be.

I do beleve Id spend the 200$ on a port job before I bought a bigger carb. Especially if your gonna get a new piston. That 39 will be too much carb w/o a port job. JMO
