1997 Trailblazer electric start problem
#1
hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a copy of the electrical schematics involved with the electric start.
I just put a new battery in that works fine and holds a charge, but when I hit the start button, I hear a clicking near the battery, but nothing else happens. It pull starts fine, but I would like to get the electric start fixed. Thanks for any help.

Sounds to me like you have to take the starter off, take it apart and clean it up.Water and gunk make thier way through the starter drive gears. I had to do this about 3 times ayear when I had my TB.

Sound to me too, that the starter is your problem - I've seen very few Polaris solenoids go bad, usually the ones that are bad have been melted from trying to push too much amperage through to a bad starter. (BTW, for those interested - the Polaris solenoid they are selling now for $60 is the same thing as a Lawnmower solenoid with 5/16" poles that sells for around $15 - the only thing that has to be done is modify the connection from the start button - the Polaris solenoids come with a pigtail wire that does this)
Here is a simple way to diagnose:
If you jump across the poles on the solenoid (battery wire on one pole, starter wire on other pole) -
1. the engine turns over - solenoid is bad or cable to starter is bad
2. the starter does not spin - "sparks" occur when jumping poles -- starter is shorted - cheaper to buy a new one off Ebay for $120 ($132 w/ shipping).
3. the starter does not turn over - no "sparks" occur when jumping poles - starter brushes are bad/and or stuck - may just need cleaning or replacing starter brushes
