HardRock Air box Mod
#1
Just installed mine today seems to be a little sluggish on the bottom end and breaks up on the top. I pulled the plug and it is white. So I put the 180 main in and 50 pilot, same thing, plug is still white too! Also fan seems to be running alot. Anyone running this or have any suggestion?

quickscrambler, just my opinion, but unless you are at sea level, the 180 should be fine. I am going to guess that being in Ohio, you may be anywhere from 500 to 2500 feet above sea level, in which case, the 180 main would be just fine. I suspect that your problem lies in your carb jet needle position. If you are educated enough on how to put a main jet in, this should not be too hard for you to understand. You need to get at your jet needle and lower the e-clip a notch. Doing this will raise the jet needle off of the main jet slightly and will richen your fuel mixture from 1/8 to 3/4 throttle. Obviously this will not effect the W.O.T. mixture, as at this point, the needle is completely off of the main jet. If you have never taken this jet needle out before, please try and get an eploded view of all the parts of the carb before attempting this as there are many small pieces that could be lost or not put back in the correct order. I have the service manual which is invaluable. If you do not have access to the Predator manual, I know that the D.S. 650 has the exact same carb. So if you know anybody that has one of them, they may be able to help too. Good luck!

Also on another note, It is hard for me to belive but someone once told me that once a plug is white from being lean, it is hard for it to go black again. I know this sounds crazy and I don't actually believe it myself, but what I am getting at is this: it is possible that if you are at the 1000' - 2500' above sea level, I think that the 180 is too big and that you should drop down to a 172.5 or so. Of course you would still have to raise your needle by lowering the e-clip a notch. Please take all that I have said with a grain of salt, since I am not there to see your quad in person, it is hard to do a fair assessment of what you jetting problems actually are. Keep wrenchin' and good luck.
