Upset about new four wheel--need help
#1
Hi everyone--brand new to this forum thought you may all be able to help me out. So today I went out and bought a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 from a guy up here in AK. It was advertised in the local paper for $4850 OBO with 125 miles. I thought a decent deal maybe I can talk him down a litle. So too make a long story short--the guy gives me the run around but I finally get the rig. I take it out for a spin, look it over, everything looks good. No cracks or damage just normal wear. It show 125 miles on it---good to go. Take it home a drive it around the block, press the little button buy the speedo and realizes it changes the numbers. Now I see it has 125 hours and 1100 miles on it. Had I known it had this many miles I probably woundnt have bought it. Now Im worried that it has to many miles and I may have gotten ripped off. Can youll help me out--is this anything to worry about?--I plan on changing the oil, filter, and air filter--should I call him back and tell him that was false advertising? What should I do?
Sorry this post is long, but thanks for any help--Dave

I don't think it's that bad of a deal, but I hate being lied to. I would double check the ad to make sure you read it correctly. Then see if he'll give you some of your money back or all of it. I think you may always regret not saying or doing something. Especially if you were to start having problems later on.

Thats not bad at all...... a friend of mine just got back from a 3 day trip to land of the lakes and his GPS said they did 79 miles....thats in a 3 day trip!!!!!!! Miles rack-up faster then you think when your riding so 1100 miles on a 2002 has low miles IMO. As long as it runs great and no major problems then I personally think you got a deal.

It sounds like a OK deal. i would take it to a dealer and have it checked over tho, things like the clutch and belt.

been looking at '02's on Ebay for about 2 weeks $4500 is about average so on that your ok. as far as being lied too, or a false ad, make some noise and maybe the guy will float you a couple hundred back. The mileage isn't bad, A dealer i know just got one in on trade with 4000 miles and still going strong. At least you know it wasn't in the shop all the time like some Polaris'.
