Default Stupid Question....

Well, I just did it.
I got myself a EFI
I just have a question: What does "break in" a Quad means?
Thanks for the help.

it means to "break in" the motor. You have to run it easy when it is new. There are specific things you need to do when it is new. You can't just get a new quad and go outside and start rippin' on it. Someone else will chime in w/ specific details

Default Stupid Question....

My 500HO manual says no full throttle until 10 hours. Didn't you get a manual with this bike?

i don't know if it is any different with your quad but with every sport quad ive seen you just need to take it easy for 10 hours. hit full throttle every now and then but only for a couple seconds. you want the piston to be a able to get it's full range of motion and for the rings to settle in the right spot. make sure you are using every gear periodically and not staying in one gear to long or the rings will settle in one spot. just vary your speed alot, and try to rip through the gears often. but be careful, the last thing you need to do is blow the piston up on a brand new quad.

Default Stupid Question....

It's brand new, and I'm just starting to flip over the Owner's manual.
And BTW, I wasn't there to pick it up myself, so if the dealer gave some insigh on it, I wasn't there.

Care to give some personal experiences on it?
What to do and what to avoid?

First of all welcome to the forum. Second of all ecrider. Cut the guy some slack. It's his first quad and fourth post.

The manual will help you alot. Simply baby it a little. THis is the most import time for your new quad, the break in. You don't have full HP yet, all the new parts are wearing in and you are getting to know your bike. Check your coolant level after your first short ride (sometimes you get air in the system and riding it purges). Take note of your oil tank level. My 500 it says to run it for 20-30 seconds, shut off and look at the dip stick. You should hear your fan come on once in awhile. Keep an eye on your gauges. The new models have a lot of info. It would keep my idle adjusted higher until your break in is over, then set it per the book.

My 500 says to change the oil at 20hours. I am planning on using a wix filter and AMS oil 0w40 (both are stocked locally) you might want to do the same. Stay away from the FRAM filters (unless your just trying to get the water out of the crankcase from a good dunking and you will put on a good filter when your flushing is done).

Start thinking about all the fun things your going to start spending money on as accessories.

watsupdog my point is exactly that. His dealer should have helped him by providing a manual and telling him about the break in period. The dealer should have given more help to a new quad owner / beginner. Taking his hard earned money and send him out the door without explaining / answering questions is not my idea of customer service. His 2nd post explained that he wasn't there to take delivery and I guess that clears up some of the confusion.
