Ok Andrew Thomas, got the chance today to dragrace a 400EX vs. a Scrambler 500. You say the Scrambler is faster! That's a joke. No matter how crappy of a start the 400EX got or how good of a start the Scrambler had, the 400EX would smoke it every time. I also raced my 300EX against it. The Scrambler is faster than it. Not by much though. A lot of it depended on the start, but we raced several times. On the last race, the Scrambler was slightly ahead of me, if I would have moved over I would have ran into his back tire. That's how close it was! Also raced Foreman ES and Lakota, and 300EX and Lakota. I wish my Uncle would have raced me on his new '01 Kawasaki Mojave.

Bit of a difference between a piped SC400L and a stock SC500.

Hmm i raced a 300ex and absolutely smoked it, from the start all the way to the finish. I don't see how u could be that close, in accleration test done with radar the scrambler wasn't very far behind a banshee from 0-30 and the 300ex was like 2 /12 seconds slower to 30. thats a huge diffrence. A 400ex i have also raced and i sometimes won if he didn't get a good start and i got a good start each time, but i usually lost though not by much.

How did you measure acceleration with radar?

Rooster,
My signature has had "Scrambler 400 with RCR mods" for over a year now. Yes mine has a pipe. I wasn't talking about every Scrambler 500 made. I said MY Scrambler 400 has beat 400EX's, it also just recently lost to a modded 400EX, not in a drag so much but on top end... Not all bikes are equal. If Polaris's are as bad as people say they are than it is entirely possible that one Scrambler can be a lot faster than another. I'm not saying Polaris as horrible quality control, but it has been suggested....
Last Saturday I raced and beat an ATC 250R 3 wheeler. I also lost to him too! Again it was after about 300ft, after that it's not a drag it's top end race. That would be like racing a car 1/2 mile. Know what I mean??? How did I beat him??? All Scramblers are faster than 250r's? I doubt it... Was a bad rider? maybe... Was I just lucky? maybe... Was it National fat hog 4x4 quad beat a pure race ATC day... ? MAYBE...
Whatever it was, I won & I lost. But that's how it was & that's how I'm telling it. So you beat one Scrambler, good for you. I'm not going to assume all 250r's are slower than a 4x4 auto quad. I just know on that particular day my overweight 4WD grandma quad diffently changed one 250R riders mind on slow Polaris quads.
After all just because John Force beats Cruz Pedrigon one week, he might not the next....

Oh yeah,
As far as the 300EX. I believe you, it might have been close. But just a couple of weeks ago I raced a friend at Haspin Acres. He has a 300EX & just got a new FMF pipe, jet, filter. Anyway He asked if I wanted to drag too see if we were close. I said OK. After the drag he said (and I quote) "You kicked my ***"
Not saying I could beat every 300EX, but that day I did beat that one. I just call it like I see it believe or not.

Andrew, I know what you're saying about different variables affecting the outcome of the race. Lets say one of the machines went mudding and got covered in mud and then went to the drag strip. That machine has a lot of extra weight that he didn't have before. That's a variable to look at also. Hell, the amount of fuel you have in your tank makes a difference too! All the machines that I raced were stock, except for the Lakota which had a DG pipe and jetting changes. The Scrambler 500 WAS faster than the 300EX. The 400EX was pretty much no contest, I could get the holeshot every time and stay ahead until the end. We also switched riders with the same outcome. All I can say is that I had a great time drag racing.

Drag racing proves nothing about a quads abilites except to go in a straight line faster than another or not faster.

Did you say that you beat a scrambler off the line i find that hard o believe. But it could of happen. My bike barely ever gets beat off the line. But it doesnt will a whole lot of top end drags

Stevie,
I agree a Polaris holeshot is tough to beat.
Rooster, You just said what I have been saying. I think the 400EX & Scramblers are close enough in speed that depending on rider, weather, terrain etc. The win could go to either bike. Now something like a Banshee, well the Banshee rider would really have to blow for a Scrambler to win stock to stock. I like dragging mine. It is fun win or lose. It's nice having a fast 4WD to race though. Even when I lose I'm close enough to make the guy on the Banshee ask about my quad, that makes me feel almost as good as winning
