Maybe you guys can help me out I was out ridding over the weekend and my explorer was running pretty good at the start but towards the end it would not come over 1/4 throttle. I changed the plug and that did not help at all I ended up gettting pulled by a buddies sportsman. I can't figure out what is wrong with it. When I took it off the trailer the next day it seemed to be running okay but still sick. Any suggestions befor it spends a mounth or so in the shop???????

Check your air intake and see if it is obstructed in any way maybe the foam is stopping the air movement into the air box, also did the E clip come unclipped on the needle had that happen on a honda once. Also push the reverse limiter in see if that changes anything.

Does it act like its starving for fuel? Try changing the fuel filter and see if this helps. Its an inexpensive fix and should be done periodically anyway. Hope this helps.

My buddys SP did that the other day. His son-in-law had gotten just enough water in the breather box to wet the POS paper filter.

My buddys 400 did about the same thing. After trying the easy stuff, I took the carb apart and cleaned the jets. That fixed it.

What did the old spark plug look like?
What does the new spark plug look like?
The plug will give you clues as to what to look at to diagnose the problem.

The old plug really didn't look to bad for a 2 stroke. I am pretty sure the oil pump is out of adjustment it seems to smoke real heavy but not all of the time. Is there any way to tell if it is out of adjustment and how do you adjust it?

I've encountered this problem on my wifes 00 400 xplorer. Its only happened when riding in groups in dusty conditions. The cause, the cheap paper filter was clogged! Pitch it and get a K&N, they can handle alot more dust and wont stop you dead when wet.

I am going to get a new filter I guess because it was pretty dust but I am still stumped on what it was. I took it out of the shed yesterday and it ran fine besides the 2 flat front tires I also encounted on my last ride. I guess it just didn't feel like running good that night. Who knows but thanks for all of the suggestions.
