should i remove electric start?

i havent personally taken off the flywheel but i have heard stories that the hard part is getting off the flywheel and the puller will work best but... i have heard of heating it, hitting it with hammer, jammin screwdrivers in and everything. try to get it off without using the puller first.

i just tried heating it and prying as i hit it and that sucker isnt comming off,im going to make my own puller and see if that works

I am going to try it! where can I get a puller? I would rather not go through all the bull and go strait for the throat b using the correct tools!! I can lighten it myself on the lathe at work and removing the other bull shouldn't be a problem. I just wondered about torque specs and if I nee gaskets and such things like that!? I wilsh I had a book on these machines!

Go to Autozone and they have "free" loaner tools (you have to put a deposit that you get back when you bring it back) - all you need is a normal automotive "harmonic balancer" puller and (3) 6mm or 8mm bolts to thread into to flywheel (not sure which yours takes) - tighten the puller bolt as tight as you can and smack the puller bolt head hard with a hammer - the flywheel should pop right off.

I personnally would buy a puller from Hotseat Performance. They cost about 44.95, because you
will find that the pullers from auto stores will not fit just right. They might work but they might
mess-up your flywheel. I mean it could be a one shot pull the flywheel off but D@m it I stripped
the threads kind of thing.

any puller should work as long as the 3 bolt holes line up,and it shouldnt hurt the flywheel at all.ill make one before i spend 40 something bucks on one and im sure it will work fine..

Either the puller from Hot Seat (like Talon stated), or the harmonic balancer puller (like Quadwrench) work just fine. Make sure to wear safety glasses....more than once, a puller bolt head have popped off. Grade 8 bolts are the best.
Don't heat things too much, due to your stator being behind the flywheel. Also, before you re-install the lightened flywheel, put a very thin smear of Permatex's Anti-sieze...a very thin film is all you need.
Both forms of lightening work to quicken the revs. It's just that when you match up the HPD ATV8 pipe, with the race lightened flywheel, you get such instantaineous throttle response....makes ya grin a lot.
