Default 500 HO belt problem??????

I was riding my 500 HO and on pavement on a SMALL incline it won't hardly take off. I have to give it all the throttle and then it takes off slow and hesitates and jerks forward till the speed gets up to about 20mph or so. Its not a carb problem. Its not missing out but seems to be the belts or clutches not adjusted right. When I punch the throttle and hold it I can smell the belt a little. Anyone else have this proble. Its a 04.5 and has 350 miles on it. Most of the riding has been on the roads around my house. Thanks. Dobie

Default 500 HO belt problem??????

Probly not the same thing but my scrambler did that yesterday when I hit a puddle that I thought was 4-5 inches deap and ended up being 2 feet deep, I hit it going about 20 mph and it stopped me in my tracks. Water shot everywhere and my scrammy wouldnt go. No matter what I did it would just slowly creap along when I was gunning it. Finnaly I ran along side it until it got going then jumped on. I think my belt just got wet, because I havn't had any problems since.

Have you made any changes to the clutch?

If it is under waranty, I would take it to the dealer.

Low gear has more power but its doing it at a lesser degree in low. I didn't go thru any water so the belt isn't wet. The rpm's reb up but it seems it don't want to take off right. It has always taken off right until now. Dobie

Default 500 HO belt problem??????

I loaded up my 500 to take to my dealer tomorrow and decided to take the screw out of the bottom of the belt cover and out came this thick black fluid. It looked like really black oil. How could this be? I thought this area is sealed so water or anything else can't get in. Somebody please help me. Dobie

It sounds like you have oil in your clutch cover. My guess is that the seal on the primary clutch shaft went bad. This is probably allowing oil into the clutch and then on to your belt. If the belt has oil on it, you won't go.

Yeah, sounds like a seal went bad. How old is the machine?

Sounds about right, especially if you have oil in the clutch housing. Its the only way it could get in there. They gonna warrenty it?

They better warranty it with only 325 miles and six weeks old. If they don't I'm done with Polaris. They should though. Dobie
