Default The $500 Sportsman question.....

Would a person be better off to buy a 500 H.O. and mod it with the basics, or spend an extra $500 and get the 600 SP? Is there a lot of differences in performance? And are the motors the only changes, or is the running gear on the 600 more heavy-duty? Thanks!!

I dunno......Myself, I'll be using it for hunting and fire-roading w/ the misses on back. If the old man goes 1/2's with me on the price, then also for plowing and hauling a small trailer around in the fields. But it'll be mine, and he'll borrow it whenever. But, with 1 1/2 sport quads, I won't get any help on a 3rd.

you can find a used scrammy 400 4x4 on ebay right now for a good price. or u can get a scrammy 500 4x4. or a utility. think if u want speed a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke. pesonally i would get teh 400 4x4. my family has one its a 99 and when u get stuck or wen ur in snow that 4x4 really really pulls. its only been stuck in mud over its front wheels once.

The 700 is a bit too pricey, unless I could find a really clean used one.....I was thinkin the 500 H.O. then add a pipe and stuff eventually, to compliment some bigger tires, and was just wondering if it'd be worth the $ to upgrade to a 600. I already have a 87 Quadzilla to go fast, and a trailblazer to mod up to go fast on the tight trails. The SP would mostly be for a "cruiser", but the 4X4 would definately be used....a lot. I do/did want to ditch my TB 250 for a 400, but with more of the good, haul-***-wide-open riding places being closed, I would get a lot more use out of a utility, and my father can't have his own because my mother doesn't think he needs one, and he would go half on the price and use it whenever, and all of us will be happy.

actually the 500 HO is just as fast off the line as the 600 just doesnt have as much tourq for doing bigger tasks, with 500 dollars in mods it would be pretty darn close to the 600 in performance, just a reminder the 500 has been proven to be a tough quad the 600 hasnt been around that long yet

That part about the 500 being a proven tough guy is the exact thought I had on the way home from work. I'm sure the 600's are reliable as well, but they haven't been out long enough.

The only thing that may require added oomph is snow plowing, but the old man is an old man, so he wouldn't be hot rodding around on it. And the stuff he would haul with a SP is the same stuff he hauls around behind his riding lawn mower.

Thanks for the thoughts!!
