the 2-strokes seem to be pretty reliable, ive had mine for almost 2 years with no engine problems at all,and most of my riding is with the throttle pinned to the bars..the pro's are they can be modded to make the 500 motor seem like a 250 and they are alot easier to work on..the con's would have to be,they might need a topend rebuild before the 500 and gas milage..

So basically if i can get a better deal on the two stroke version go for it? i do alot of trail riding and mud and in the summer i go to gravel pits and drag race my friends blaster and 300ex. I was just wondering because i have heard that 2 strokes are very un reliable. Also was is basic maitinence on a two stroke?

do you plan on doinf mods and want the most power fro your machine or you going to keep it stock?go with the 500 if your going to keep it stock otherwise go with the 400..i would have to say the 500 4-stroke requires more maitinence than the 400 2-stroke..

the only thing i would put new on it would be a pipe and jet kit at most but not for a long time

You say that now but I can tell you from experiance that these 400s are addictive when it comes to mods
