500 MAG FOR PLOWING ?
#1
I am very close to buying a new 500 Magnum. I intend to do quite a bit of plowing, snow and some sand/gravel. Also want to play alot. Do any of you use your 500 Mag or SP for plowing? How does the tranny/belt hold up? Any other problems I should be aware of? I hear about all sorts of problems with Polari but only from people that don't own or sell them. The people that I have talked to that own them, love them. Thanks for the input.
Could buy a SP or RUBY but don't want to.

there was an article about the MAG 500 and plowing on this website. it did a good job. That seems to be the case with non owners loving to tell us how bad are atv's are and us owners love them my SP500 is awesome 1000 miles and still drives as nice as the very lucky day I got to go pick it up.

I have pushed 3ft of snow with my Polaris blade and SP500. The True 4x4 and low range CAN tackle anything, but i would get a Moose or County blade. My front conection on my Polaris has went bad ten times. Also i would invest in a winch if you will do a lot of plowing. So it pushed very well.

I Checked out that article.
It was a Mag 500 vs. Suzuki Quad Runner (or maybe King Quad) anyway it had the same specs as the Polaris. The Magnum won. They also said it did a great job of plowing snow. Now I just need to decide if I should on Monday and get the free winch, Wait for year end deals or buy a 2001. thanks for the help.

I plow snow with my Magnum 425 and its a beast of a plowing machine. Put it in low and awd and it will push a pretty good pile of snow. The key on a Polaris is using low gear for plowing and work. My advice would be to get the winch. I have one and use it to run the plow. Works great and you can raise/lower the plow effortlessly. I have not put chains or any additional weight on the machine for snow plowing, but you might want to if you were plowing gravel/sand. I'm trying to teach the wife how to run the plow so I don't have too
PS. Your are right, the only people downtalking the Polaris's are the people that don't own them.

I'm not sure when the 2001's come out. Perhaps email a guy named ChopperBill. He works in a dealership and will know when they arrive at the dealer. I bought my 98 in November of 97. I think they had them several weeks prior to that. I would wait a few more weeks until the 01's are about to arrive and see how bad your dealer wants to unload a 00. Typically, Polaris will have some special promotions to help the dealers get rid of the prior years models. You maybe able to work a plow or winch into the deal if the dealer wants to move it bad enough.
P.S. You'll love the Magnum. Its been a great quad.
