What up everyone?! I'm new to the whole ATV thing. I'm really interested in getting into it. I've done a little bit of research but I'd like to get some information from you guys because you're all very knowledgable and passioinate about the sport. I don't really know anyone who rides so I figured this would be a great place to start getting together some research. Can you guys give me some tips on things I should take into consideration as a beginner? Where I might go to find good places to ride (southern california)? What types of gear I should be buying? Which vehicles should I take into consideration bearing in mind that this would be my first time although I'm willing to spend a little extra money if I think it's worth it? I've heard pretty much only things from three companies, Polaris, Honda and Yamaha. I'd appreciate some objective feedback if possible. Also, if I could get some input from both guys out there that are seasoned vets and those of you who have just started or are more beginner. Are there any conventions or races, in the western area of country, that might be good to attend? Really, just speak your mind so i can absorb everything and start to form opinions about things. Honesty would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your input in advance!

Well lets see...I live the southern most part of Cali so near me there's the sand dunes you could go to....Glamis, Gordons Well, and Buttercup. Then there's a mix of both...Supersitions... Assumig your buying a quad new you will probably get your helmet, goggles and gloves for free(they'll say its free).... Im not sure how big a guy you are or what your purpose is but the Predator is a very good overall quad in my opinion for the money.... Im happy w/ the Predator very much so.... you might want to get some riding boots and chest protector...... um...thats all i've got to put in...anyone else?

How old are you?
If your old enough and your going to ride the dunes then get a predator and some good tires - the guys from southern CA can recommend a good sand tire for you.
If your not old enough to get anything with a manual transmission from Polaris then the trailblazer may be what you are looking for.
Hard to determine unless I missed your age in your question.
As for riding gear a helmet/goggles first and foremost, then from there it is mostly what you feel you need to protect ie chest protector, boots, gloves.

Depending on your age and size I would recomend a 500 Scrambler or the TRailblazer 250 to a beginner both are automatic and have plenty of power for a beginner and have more power to be had when moddified.
