Default Oil Filter Removal - 700 EFI

I plan to change the filter and oil in my 700 EFI this weekend. It's away at my cabin including the replacement filter. Anyone have any luck unscrewing these by hand or do I need an oil filter tool or socket? Is the tool or socket something I should be able to pick up at any auto parts store?

thanks!

You can do it by hand. You will find that you have to really turn on it though, but it will come off by hand. Be sure to put a little oil around the filter, this will help to seal it.

I have always just used an old leather belt. Works great for getting oil filters off.

You know you are a redneck when...you go to change your oil filter and you take off your belt of your trousers.... Sorry dude, just had to do it...nothing personal.

I hear ya. Really its a great idea and something I never thought about. However, I bet that is how these belt filters have become popular, ya know? Thanks for taking it in stride.

Unfortunately don't have my ATV at house... simple question... what size is the actual oil drain plug bolt? I want to make sure I have the right socket for my torque wrench.

Thanks! :-)
I just use the same one, it wouldn't hurt but i don't think it just has to be done. However just a tip to save your self some truble, make sure you get the seal because it will fall in the oil pan. It may even stick to the top of the motor by oil, so just be aware and dont forget to put it on. I did forget once and my ATV was missing oil and i could not find out why, took it to the dealer and thats what it was. This was on my 2002 700 twin (same motor though). Off the top of my head I think the bolt takes a "6mm", correct me if i'm wrong but i belive thats right. If no one comes back backing my statement up I will repost with known correct information. It's about 12am here and my ATV is the storage building outside so i can't check. Hope your enjoying your EFI!

6mm sounds a little small dont you think. Where the hell is the drain plug anyways?
