To oil or not to oil, that is the question. The prefilter on my SP is coated with filter oil. The prefilter on my Xplor is dry. Maintaining a dry prefilter is easier yet oiled prefilters are better in dusty conditions. Should I oil both prefilters or keep both prefilters dry?

I too run with an oiled K&N filter and keep the prefilter dry. Works well for me.

I was thinking about getting the K+N filter, do you have any problem with the oil washing in rain or mud riding, I know the sc500 gets water splashed into the air box time and again

The stock pre filter is suppose to be dry. I was riding in dusty conditions this week end and my 500 started running too rich at altitude. When I checked my K&N it was extremly dirty. What was I suppose to do 300 miles from home? Needless to say when I got home I put the stock Polaris filter on because when it gets dirty I can at least removed it and give it a couple of taps on the palm of my hand and remove most of the dirt when I'm out trail riding.

I have a K&N clamp on the only reason I got it was I always had to clean the yellow foam one. And I got tired of it. It makes it louder but runs awsome.
