Lemon Year for Scramblers
#1
Someone was telling me that 2000 year scramblers were having alot of brake and tranny problems. Like a dealer report or something.
Does anyone know about the 98-99 400L sport?
Also I am seriously intrested in getting a 400L sport. Does anyone know of any differences or problems they have been hearing about with those models. Is the 99 better? Should I get the 2000 because it would be worth the suspension up grade? Or does it not really matter because they were all pretty much the same besides color?
Thanks snapcase

The 400 Sport (now called Scrambler 400 2x4) went to concentric drive in 1999. From 1996-1998 they were yellow and purple, then in '99, yellow and red. For '00, all red and called a Scrambler. Other than the concentric drive, different tires, and a few changes on the handlebar controls, they are the same.
My '98 has been trouble free, but I have replaced the belt and a couple of clutch buttons.

The only problem I have, and it does keep repeating itself, is my Y2K 400 keeps running into things? I've had it back to the dealership several times they say it is a bad input controller located behind the handlebars???
Seriously, it runs great no issues.
Denver,NC? East Bend, NC?? Are you close to Winston- Salem? Let's ride..

FINALLY !!! Someone with the same problem as me !!
Mine does occasionally run into things, but what it does most is it throws me off. Sometimes off the right side, but mostly off the back.
I did bend an A-arm rod when it steering into a boulder at 20 mph, but hey, when 800 pounds of bike and rider hit something like that, somethin's gotta give.
All these problems have also come from the same malfuction. INPUT ERROR.

I scored / scuffed a piston in my 2000 400cc 2X4 mainly from not allowing the quad to warm up sufficiently before riding it hard. I got the ported cylinder and a modified head back from Rick Ritter today. His work was high quality and very clean.
The quad should be back together for the weekend, and I'll post my impressions of the work done.
