The same thing happened to my dads quad this weekend. Chain broke piled up in the tranny and blew a hole in the side. New halfs, chain and sprockets on the way. As for the little plastic guard that was suppost to stop that from happening it blew apart into nothing, only plastic.

well i was late getting home so i hammered it and i guess there was a stuck or bent roller next to the master link and some how in got the clip off and the link popped out and it flew off and wrapped around the sprocket and chewed up the case. well the sprockets are fine and i just ordered a parts unlimited X ring chain so maybe it will stay together this time. so now all i need is a new case and then im gonna be up and running. i would switch the case my self but i dont have anything to pull the clutches off with. so the dealer will have to do it this time

nah it was my fault. i started to hammer links out the wrong way. i didnt grind them off all the way and i had them in hte vise the wrong way. now i know to grind them off flush and to open the vise a little and set the chain on top and use a punch to pop it out.
