Default suspension question?

Hello,

I've got a sp500 HO and have found that the suspension is fairly soft. While this is a good thing as far as ride comfort is concern i much prefer my buddy's sp700 suspension. It 's stiff, stable, and just feels better. I am putting heavy duty springs on it but am not sure of the weight tolerances. I am a good size guy at 6'3" 280. I have found some rear springs that claim to be 125 lbs what should i being looking for???

thanks,

snowmann

There is a tool for that but you can also do it by jacking the quad up, letting the rear hang.( this take some tension off the spring) And use a big pair of channel locks. There might be somthing in the tool pack that can with the bike.

Default suspension question?

I just use a large pair of channel locks to adjust the back shocks on my 500ho. The front on mine is to soft and I think I am going to get the front springs for a 600/700. I held that the HD front springs start to sag in a few months. The front springs from a 600/700 will lift the front of a 500 about a inch or so I been told.

Default suspension question?

I put a piece of 2" pipe 1.75" in length under the front springs of my 500 HO. Now the bike sits up in the front and does not dive in the turns or under hard braking. The bike handles much better and even with the stiffer front end it never compromised the ride quality...

Do you have a pic of that spacer? What keeps it from shifting under the pressure of the spring?

I had read in posts on other forums about using 2" pipe for a spacer. The other day at work I came across a 1/2" pipe coupling( I think thats what it called) like a collar with two bolts, it was 2" inside dim. and 1.75" thick. I got two of my buddies with pry bars prop the spring up on the strut so i could get the colar around the strut under the spring. Slipped in the bolts, tightened them up and that was it. Not the same bike at all, handles so much better and now it sits right, not nose down.
