Scrambler 400- Good choice?
#1
Hey guys,
I have been agonizing on what to purchase lately. I was decided on the Sp500, but then the SP500HO came along, I was just going to but a 2000 SP500, but I have the need for speed. I love to go trail riding with guys I know with 125cc bikes. I was thumbing through the paper today and low and behold. A 2000 SC400, for 4500. I like to hunt, ice fish and all that stuff, but feel this would be a nice quad? I like to just "screw" around, trail ride, All that stuff... Am I gonna be burning belts if I try to pull a dear with this quad? Is it possible to plow a small driveway with it? Thanks much!

Well if you saw your going to plow....I would automaticlly go for the SP500HO....
I doubt that u have ridden a SP500.... let me tell you...you cna "screw" around on it...it is much better for ice fishing hunting and all and u can haul anything with it!
Do yourself a favor adn go to your dealer adn test drive a SP for power then make your desision

Whichever quad you decide on,make sure it has a low range on it or you WILL burn up the belt trying to drag in high range.Allways use low range when pulling, hill climbing, mudding,or towing and you wont have any belt problems.======Bill

Hey guys,
Like I said, I would LOVE a SP500, There is no way I can afford a new Sp500 though. I *have* ridden them. I like them, but, I want something I can throw around a little better, ya know? and maybe even take small jumps. I would really love to have both, but thats not going to happen. There is NO way I will be able to keep up with my friends on their 125's and 250's on a SP500... I dunno, Who knows.

I have a 400 scrambler. I live on a farm. I pull lots of stuff that should not be pulled with a atv. I go through about 3-4 belts a year, but they are not that hard to change. I had the same problem, I ride with Banshee's and that sort of quads, but i wanted the 4X4 so I got this i am not to dissapointed. I am buying another Scrambler one of the newer more dependable models.

QuadMan400,another option might be the Xplorer 400 it's got the zip of the scrambler,high/low range and racks to carry your gear. The Xplorer is 110lbs lighter than the Sportsman! Cost, new about $5350. There also almost as quick and fast as the 400 Scrambler. Mine makes short work of 00' Scrambler 500s, haven't come across a newer 400 yet.

i think the scrambler 400 would be a good choice--
i live on a farm also, and had one--i carried
(4) 50 lb. bags of feed on EACH rack...i also
pulled a trailer w/hay on it, too...i changed the
clutch, so it would engage at a higher rpm, and
never had any trouble..i also had an aaen pipe and silencer--anyway, i worked AND played on it, and really liked it!!

Thanks for all the great info guys!
Another question, Do you think I could keep up to a RM125 on the trail? How fast will the SC400 go with the RCR stage one kit? Aprox? I am 6'2 180. Thanks much!

hey quadman400. i own both a quadracer 500 and a scrambler 400 and the scrambler 400 is a great machine for trails. it will keep up with most anything, on trails that is.... / the rcr stage one kit helps a lot so i hear and the stage one kit is probably what i'll be buying.
