3 things to do first.
1. K&N air filter.
2. New pipe. If you want to not spend a bunch, go with a White Bros. slip on. Under $200 If you want to spend a bit more the HPD full system is the way to go.
3. Clutch. HPD has a great one to go with there pipe and Dalton has a great clutch also.
If you do these then yuou will also need to rejet your carb to get more fuel with the higher flow of the pipe and filter

If you dont want to spend a lot of cash for clutching I put stock sportsman 500 primary clutch weights on mine.. I believe they are BW wieghts...really helps out a lot in low end torque. (good for wheelies) Plus your not having to rev the thing to the nutz to get it to take off. The wieghts are about 9 bucks a piece you need 3 of them and it takes about an hour to put them in.

A Polaris white primary spring will give you some more RPM on take off. Also, and HPD violet secondary spring set on the 2-2 postion seems to be the favorite for us that ride a lot of trails. I myself have the HPD Aggressive cluth kit which has a HPD brown primary spring, 58g weights, HPD violet secondary spring, and a different helix. I am going to try some s55 weights though from a stock 400 scrambler as soon as I can find someone that has a set laying around.

Put a sportsmans 400 which is non-engine breaking clutch secondary helix in 44/36 spilit were the stocker is a 40. I've got a sliver/blue(poor top speed) secondary spring(which has alot of back shift had to put in hpd heavy duty button kit ) yellow primary and 58 gram weights. put I run 25 inch tires and 4x4 Too!!! I think you be happy with a red spring second polaris pn 7041198 and a secondary helix form a 02' 400 sportsman it the cheaps fix.
